Marjorie "Irene" Verity passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 19, 2026. She was born on February 1, 1936 to Howard and Edna Opdyke in Frenchtown, New Jersey. Irene was predeceased by both her parents, her son, Barry Verity, and her grandson, Nicholas McConnell.

Irene moved to Wheeler, New York in 1971 with both of her children. She purchased a beautiful farm that she was very proud of. There she spent years farming with her kids and loved her 3 collies, Cassie, Ginger and Heidi. She later turned the farm into the Wheeler Bed and Breakfast, where she spent many years hosting families as they traveled through the area. She thoroughly enjoyed canning and preserving all sorts of fruits and vegetables that were enjoyed by her family and guests, alike.

Irene love to entertain and host gatherings, most of all her annual Christmas party where she was able to show off her home decorated from top to bottom, which including her 7 full sized themed Christmas trees. She was an avid quilter, knitter and crocheter. Irene could never pass up a yard sale, fabric store or Christmas store. She loved spending time with her family whether it was for a meal, game night, going to her granddaughter's dance recitals and any of the kids' sporting events. She was an avid Yankees fan, who adored Derek Jeter, and his butt.

In 2010, Irene left the dreaded New York winters and headed for the sandy shores of South Carolina with her daughter, Bev. For the next 16 years, Irene spent time hosting dinner parties, tea parties, and game nights. She spent many days sitting on the beach, watching the boats, dolphins, pelicans, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren search for shark teeth and seashells.

Irene touched many lives and will be missed by all her friends and family, who will cherish the memories of her for years to come.
